Join the Seaport Museum for a special event featuring the important work of New York Aquarium’s Youth Ocean Advocates! These passionate New York City high school students will showcase their research and advocacy work, tackling wildlife conservation, environmental policies, and their impact on communities and marine ecosystems.
As future leaders in marine conservation, Youth Ocean Advocates support protecting the New York Seascape and inspiring action in local communities. Everyone is welcome to come hear their presentations, learn about their efforts, and support the next generation of environmental change.
Following the presentations, check out the Museum’s latest exhibition, Maritime City, which highlights how New York City, as we know it today, arose from the sea.
Advanced registration is encouraged, and walk-ups will be accommodated as space allows.
About Wildlife Conservation Society and New York Aquarium
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) aims to conserve the world’s largest wild places in 14 priority regions, habitat for around 50% of the world’s biodiversity, and a wide range of charismatic megafauna.
The WCS New York Aquarium is part of an effort to save wildlife that began 120 years ago with the creation of the New York Zoological Society, an organization founded on science and hope which has since grown to become the Wildlife Conservation Society.
About Maritime City
The Seaport Museum’s latest exhibition Maritime City highlights how New York City, as we know it today, arose from the sea. Throughout the extensive three-floor exhibition, 540 deliberately-selected objects on view underscore how the city’s identity as a global capital of culture and finance is rooted in its origins as a seaport. By sharing the material culture of New York and its people, the exhibition highlights stories of the working class people employed by ships, shipping lines, and other local industries throughout history, as well as the emigrant workers and immigrant families that came through the port as their first stop in America.
